6:13 Now when God made his promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,

Ibrani 6:16

6:16 For people ¹  swear by something greater than themselves, ²  and the oath serves as a confirmation to end all dispute. ³ 

Ibrani 9:5

9:5 And above the ark ⁴  were the cherubim ⁵  of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Now is not the time to speak of these things in detail.

[6:16]  ¹ tn The plural Greek term ἄνθρωποι (anqrwpoi) is used here in a generic sense, referring to both men and women, and is thus translated “people.”

[6:16]  ² tn Grk “by something greater”; the rest of the comparison (“than themselves”) is implied.

[6:16]  ³ tn Grk “the oath for confirmation is an end of all dispute.”

[9:5]  ⁴ tn Grk “above it”; in the translation the referent (the ark) has been specified for clarity.

[9:5]  ⁵ sn The cherubim (pl.) were an order of angels mentioned repeatedly in the OT but only here in the NT. They were associated with God’s presence, glory, and holiness. Their images that sat on top of the ark of the covenant are described in Exod 25:18-20.
